is World Aids Day. So while the world is plucking around about Bird Flu, some facts about HIV-AIDS.

• The number of people with HIV-AIDS in the world is about 40.3 million
• 17.5 million of these are women
• 2.3 million are children under 15
• 3.1 million people have died of AIDS this year
• 570,000 of these were children
• more than 25 million have died since the 1980s
• 4.9 million people were infected this year
